“God, that’s not what I had in mind!”

“And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”  Philippians 4:19

Have you ever prayed to God asking for something and wondered why He wasn’t answering your prayer?  Maybe His way of answering your prayer was different than the way you imagined?  Instead of allowing our miracle-working God to use any and all of heaven’s resources to meet our need, sometimes, we use our finite minds and miss unique the miracle He intended for us.

You’ve heard the story about the man clinging to his rooftop during a flood. He prays that God will send him deliverance, and pretty soon a man in a rowboat comes by. "No thanks," the man on the rooftop says, "I'm waiting on God to save me." Later a family paddles up to him on a raft, and finally a helicopter drops him a rope ladder, but the man gives these the same reply. Finally waves close over the rooftop and the man finds himself standing before God's throne.

"I prayed to you, Lord!" he protests. "Why didn't you save me?"

"I sent you a rowboat, a raft, and a helicopter," the Lord replies. "What did you expect?"

Maybe you are praying for more money and God’s answer is for you to join a Bible study on financial responsibility.  Maybe you are praying for better health and God’s answer is an exercise program.  Maybe you are praying to have a close friend and God’s answer is for you to hook up with the mens or womens group at church.  Maybe God answers more prayers than we realize.
